Ukraine: third vessel with U.S. coal arrives

SBI Carioca bulk carrier has delivered 60,000 tons of coking coal from the United States to the port of Chornomorsk in Odessa region, according to the port’s dispatcher service.

The bulk carrier was moored to berth No. 1 of the first terminal on December 26.

“It has delivered coking coal of Rocklick and Premium Eagle brands from the United States of America,” the dispatcher service said.

According to Deputy Chief of the First Terminal Mykola Smischuk, it is planned to upload the bulker at a rate of 15,000 tons per day. Thus, the vessel is expected to have been unloaded within four days. Then the imported coal will be delivered by rail to Ukrainian thermal power plants (TPPs).

Ukraine has been experiencing a shortage of energy coal of A (anthracite) and T (semi-anthracite) grades after the beginning of the conflict in Donbas. A total of 7 out of 14 TPPs and some large combined heat and power plants use this coal in Ukraine.

On November 18, the port of Chornomorsk received the second vessel with 75,000 tons of gas coal from the U.S. It was delivered to DTEK‘s TPPs to replenish their stocks. (UNIAN/Ukrainian metal)
