Belarus is among the world’s top ten metal cord manufacturers, the press service of Belarus Iron and Steel Works (BMZ trademark) reported.

On November 21, BMZ celebrated the 30th anniversary of the launch of steel plant No. 1 and the start of metal cord production in Belarus.

BMZ produces and sells metal cord, the main reinforcement material for car tires, domestically and internationally. The enterprise has been exporting metal cord since 1992. Three years later, after getting certified by Continental, Goodyear, and Pirelli, BMZ managed to tap into more European countries and enter the US market. In the last five years, BMZ’s sales of metal cord went up by 15%, and the geography of export covered another six countries: the UK, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Brazil, and the Netherlands. The research activities of BMZ specialists help effectively promote the Belarusian metal cord abroad. In the last five years, BMZ began to manufacture over 20 types of metal cord, including for oversized and large tires. The plant has recently started selling ultra-durable metal cord, including that from BMZ-made wire rod, to the world’s leading tire makers. More than ten new kinds of metal cord are yet to be approved.

Today, BMZ’s wire production operates three main steel plants (No. 1 – micord, No. 2 – pluscord, and No. 3) and two auxiliary shops (packing and drawing die shop, and repair equipment shop). As for the degree of automation and availability of equipment, the plant’s wire production is one of the most advanced in the world. BMZ produces more than 100 steel cord constructions, 20 bead wire types, over 40 hose wire types from 0.15 to 0.80 mm in diameter, and also saw wire.

Established in 1984, BMZ is the managing company of the holding company Belarusian Metallurgical Company. BMZ produces cast sections, long and rolled products, reinforcing bars, pipes, metal cord, high pressure wire, and other sorts of wire. BMZ sells over 80% of its output abroad.
