The minister of ecology Ostap Semeral believes that the current size of the environment tax is nothing for major companies that sell metal at world prices.
Thus, the environment tax size should be considerably increased.
The lowest rates are in Mexico and Poland – 1 euro per ton, but in Ukraine they are 100 times lower.
“When I started telling this, metal makers and some “independent” people’s deputies started shouting. According to them, if the rates are on the level of Poland, metal price will grow by $5 per ton, and will make us uncompetitive on world markets, our economy will fall, etc. I beg your pardon. They sell metal at world prices, but pay a penny tax? Isn’t it absurd?” Semerak said. (Ukrainian metal)
