Under the environment program Chelyabinsk Iron and Steel Works increases iron-containing sludge processing 2-fold. This will decrease industrial wastes.
Manufacturing by-products contain up to 40% of iron and can replace iron ore concentrate that the company has to buy.
Previously ChMK used only the current volumes of iron-ore wastes. They were scrupulously collected with the help of various techniques, in particular, using dust and gas exhaust systems. Now the company starts using earlier accumulated sludge wastes.
They will mostly be used at the sinter factory, which produces raw materials for pig iron manufacture.
In 9 years ChMK has processed some 5 million tons of iron-containing wastes. The new program will allow increasing the sludge processing to 2 million tons per year, which will significantly decrease sludge volume. (Ukrainian metal)
