RusHydro and Rusal will not continue constructing Boguchansky Aluminum Works.
“The further expansion of BoAZ to the projected 600 thousand tons will not be necessary, as the partners decided to finish construction of another plant”, RusHydro CEO Nikolai Shulginov declared. “We’re switching to another plant, as it is more efficient”.
In autumn 2016 the companies wanted to construct BoAZ instead of participating in Tayshet Aluminum Smelter, but in June Rusal CEO Vladislav Solovyev said that it was much more advantageous to finish constructing Tayshet, than starting work on the second stage of BoAZ.
At present BoAZ operates only one complex for 149 thousand tons of aluminum per year. The second one is being constructed and will be put into operation in late 2018. (Ukrainian metal)
