Exports of coal from the Arctic terminal Chaika (Dikson) by the Northern Sea Route will make 1 million tons in 2017, Vadim Bugayev, Director General of VostokCoal (VostokUgol Management Company), said.

According to him, this volume does not include cargo going back to the Taimyr Peninsula.

Key consumers of the anthracite coal from the field near the Lemberova river are located in Europe. However, this year is to see shipments to the APR countries by Panamax ships.

“If it works, we will make 4-5 voyages”, added Vadim Bugayev.

Vadim Bugayev says the terminal will export 2.5 million tons of coal in 2018, 5 million tons in 2019 and up to 10 million tons in 2020. By 2025, the cargo flow is expected to reach 30 million tons with the construction of the second terminal, Bukhta Sever, to the south of the Chaika terminal.

Vadim Bugayev particularly emphasized successful cooperation with FSUE Atomflot the icebreakers of which allow for implementation of this project.

The construction of a coal terminal near the Chaika cape with planned turnover of 10 million tons will commence in 2017. The terminal is intended for shipments of coal (anthracite) coming from the field near the Lemberova river. The coal resources at the field are estimated at 280 million tons.
