The Aluminum Association hosted a seminar on the operation of the Institute of light materials and technologies. The institute has been created by Rusal.
One of the main projects for the institute will be the forging technology for car industry. At present transports account for 27%, or some 4.2 million tons of aluminum consumption per year, and by 2025 this volume is expected to increase by 35%, to 5.5 million tons. The increase in the aluminum consumption in the car industry could be achieved with the use of new high-strength alloys to be developed by the institute.
The special attention will be paid to materials for aerospace machinery with increased strength characteristics, to the development of the additive technologies with the creation of the new materials with the working temperature of 200 degrees C.
“The Russian aluminum industry experiences a serious shortage of new products and technologies. That is why all the participants of the Aluminum Association support the creation of such an institute. We believe that many issues will be settled thanks to the institute”, the association chairman Valentin Trischenko declared. (Ukrainian metal)
