Kola MMC, the Nornickel subsidiary, added innovative rolling stock to its rented tank car fleet for sulfuric acid transportation. The company received 73 tanks of higher capacity.
Railcars with increased bogie axial load up to 25 tons per axis (compared to 23 tons for conventional railcars) are an innovative rolling stock. Loading capacity of the new tank is 77 tons while that of conventional type tank is around 69 tons. According to experts, higher bogie axial load reduces transportation costs for one ton of cargo. Its special design is less exposed to damage en route thus allowing saving repair costs and, hence, fleet downtime. Thus, new category of rolling stock improves the transportation efficiency.
It should be noted, that Kola MMC became one of the first Russian companies to use this type of tanks for sulfuric acid transportation. Before that the innovative rolling stock in Russia was used mainly for cargo transportation in open cars and different types of hopper cars. Tanks were manufactured by TikhvinTyazhMash.
