Upon completion of the open tendering procedure, Norilsk Nickel has picked the contractor for supply and installation of communication equipment required for developing the transportation network and outfitting the backup area with radio-link communication across the Yenisei River, as part of the project involving the construction of fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) from Novy Urengoy to Norilsk. ADV Consulting, with its engineering solution based on Alcatel-Lucent (Nokia’s subdivision) equipment, won the tender.
ADV Consulting will supply the communication equipment to be installed at eight network nodes being under construction along the highway from Norilsk to Novy Urengoy in line with the project. This includes the dense wavelength division multiplexed equipment (DWDM), assess equipment (commutators and routers), and radio-relay equipment.
Furthermore, the contractor will supply container units for five communications hubs and engineering systems for network nodes construction in existing premises, install this equipment and connect it to power supply sources.
Construction of fiber optics communication lines to Norilsk will see a 957-kilometer long communications cable being laid with about 191 kilometers’ length resting on newly-erected and 478 kilometers’ worth on existing supports. A crossing through the Yenisei River is a part of the project with the line going through the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous region and Krasnoyarsk Territory. As of this moment, communication in the Norilsk Industrial Area is achieved via satellite channels, which, compared to broadband, has higher costs, lower speed and limited throughput.
Despite the complicated construction due to the remote location and seasonal difficulties, the project has a compressed timeline with completion date set for 2017. (Norilsk Nickel/Ukrainian metal)
