The Verkhovnaya Rada of Ukraine has passed a decree on the increase of ferrous scrap export duty from 10 euro to 35 euro per ton for three years.
In 2015 because of the scrap deficiency (855 thousand tons) some companies had to halt their capacities. In particular Interpipe Steel was idle for 63 days.
In early 2016 the situation worsened: in January-February scrap deliveries to Ukrainian metal works decreased by 43% YoY. (Ukrainian metal)
