In 2015 ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih decreased metal sales in Ukraine to 0.5 million tons.
“AMKR produces around 6 million tons of steel per year. In better days we sold some 1.5 million tons on the local market, but last year we dropped to 0.5 million tons. 87% of our output is exported with only 13% going to the local market. This has to do with the fall of the construction activity in Ukraine and the absence of major infrastructure projects”, said the company CEO Paramjit Kahlon.
He said his company offered the state to help construct roads. AMKR could supply slag and rebars.
“But nothing has been decided, and we don’t know if such a project starts this year”, he added.
Kahlon also explained that Chinese manufacturers have been massively dumping on the export markets, where AMKR was selling its metal. And due to the Russian Rouble devaluation, the works has also lost CIS markets. (Ukrainian metal)
