Dneprovsky Iron and Steel Works named after Dzerzhinsky, a part of the Industrial Union of Donbass corporation, has decreased output and now operates only 1 blast furnace, the other 2 are idle.
“After the coal supplies to Alchevskkoks were blocked some 10 days ago, it decreased coke output, and that resulted in the decrease of coke to DMKD, so we had to work with only 1 blast furnace”, said a company representative. 2 blast furnaces are kept “hot” and pig iron manufacture is carried at both of them one after another. The third blast furnace – DP-12 – has just undergone an overhaul and hasn’t been put into operation.
“There is no need to start operating it due to the coke shortage and the world market situation’, said the company representative.
In January-November DMKD produced 2.02 million tons of rolled metal, 2.02 million tons of steel and 1.97 million tons of pig iron, down by 3.8% and 2.7% and up by 3.2% YoY respectively.
In November the company produced 174 thousand tons of rolled metal, 168 thousand tons of steel and 164 thousand tons of pig iron, as opposed to 162 thousand tons, 179 thousand tons and 177 thousand tons in October respectively. (Ukrainian metal)
