Metinvest decided to buy spare parts for 7 locomotives belonging to Ukrzaliznytsya (Ukrainian Railways) to serve on the Kamysh-Zarya – Volnovakha line, where the company transports most of its products.
According to the company CEO Yuri Ryzhenkov, the main problem of that line is the wear of the trains.
“We’ve been pondering long what to do. We’ve asked Ukrzaliznytsya to repairs the trains. But finally agreed to buy spare parts for 7 locomotives and sell them for pennies to Ukrzaliznytsya. They promised to put the repaired trains on that line”, said Ryzhenkov.
A part of Metinvest raw materials is shipped through the Mariupol seaport, but still the major part of products is transported via that railroad line.
As has been reported, Metinvest also restored the railroad bridge over the river Kalchik that connects Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works and Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, and was blown up on December 23, 2014. (Ukrainian metal)
