In January Ukrainian by-product coke plants produced 900 thousand tons of metallurgical coke (6% density), down by 39.6% YoY, but up by 1.1% MoM.

In December 2014 coke output was 890 thousand tons, in November – 850, in October – 849, in September – 649, in August – 738 thousand tons, while in July 2014 it totaled 1.28 million tons and 1.37 million tons in June.

In 2014 Ukrainian coke plants produced 13.82 million tons of coke, down by 21.4% YoY. Ukrainian mines supplied 8.9 million tons of coal concentrate to by-product coke plants (13.5 million in 2013), imports totaled 9.7 million tons (11.4 million tons in 2013), with Russia (6.1 million tons in 2014 and 7.7 million in 2013) and USA (2.8 and 2.9 million tons) as the leaders.

If metal companies produce 20.4 million tons of pig iron in 2015, they will need 10.2 million tons of coke, and for that – 16.1 million tons of coking coals. If they produce 24 million tons of pig iron, then they will need 12 million tons of coke or 18.9 million tons of coking coal.

In 2015 by-product coke plants would receive 6.5 million tons of local coal concentrate. Thus, under the former plan, metal companies will need to import 11.2 million tons of coal, including 9.6 million tons for coke manufacture and 1.6 million tons for coal-dust fuel. Under the latter plan, the country will need to import 14.4 million tons of coal. (Ukrainian metal)
