ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, the Ukrainian subsidiary of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, stated that the output of its continuous casting machine exceeded 100,000 tons of billets in January this year.
This result means the planned annual output capacity of 1.2 million tons of 150 mm x 150 mm steel billets may be reached in the current year. The achievement of the planned capacity utilization will allow ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih to boost volumes of production and reduce production costs by optimizing slab processing at blooming mills.
Construction and commissioning of the first continuous casting machine at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih was one of the key investment projects within the scope of the Sales and Purchase Agreement of the enterprise. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih’s continuous casting department has produced 777,000 tons of billets since start up in 2012. The enterprise invested $120 million in the continuous casting project.
