The Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Subsoil Use and Industrial Policy of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan in the second and third readings adopted a bill on lifting the ban on uranium and thorium mining in the republic.
The document was approved by four members – Azizbek Tursunbaev, Marat Murataliev, Alisher Kozuev and Zamirbek Mamasadykov.
MPs Chingiz Aidarbekov, Mirlan Samyikozho and Seidbek Atambayev voted against it.
MP Mirlan Samyikozho noted that the bill needed to be finalized. He and his colleague Aidarbekov also proposed a provision that would prohibit the extraction of uranium and thorium in cases when these chemical elements were concomitant with the development of a deposit. But this initiative was rejected by the MPs. (24.kg)
