SHANGHAI, Sep 16 (SMM) – Production of crude steel in China expanded 9.3% from a year ago to stand at 87.25 million mt in August, after a year-over-year increase of 5% in July, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Monday September 16.

This brought production in January-August to 664.87 million mt, standing 9.1% higher than the same period last year, greater than the 9% rise seen in January-July.

For steel products, production rose 9.8% year on year to 106.39 million mt in August, after it grew 9.6% in July.

Production of steel products in January-August amounted to 803.67 million mt, with a year-over-year increase of 11%, remaining slower than a rise of 11.2% in the first seven months of this year.
