Russia: CherMK blast furnace No. 4 turns 50

Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works blast furnace No. 4 has turned 50. The blast furnace produces one fourth of all the company pig iron.

The furnace was blown on March 27, 1969, and the first pig iron was produced on March 29. The volume of the furnace was 2.7 thousand cubic meters, and the capacity – 1.8 million tons.

The furnace was shut down in December 1995, but in 10 years, on December 18, 2005, blown again after full reconstruction. Capacity grew to 2.4 million tons per year. And the blast furnace was named Vologzhanka.

Now it is the second largest blast furnace of Severstal. In 4-5 years it produces 10 million tons of pig iron. In August 2018 CherMK produced the 85-millionth ton of pig iron. (Ukrainian metal)
