In 2018, MMK Group’s financial contributions to charitable causes and new social programs increased by 11% YoY, reaching nearly 2.5 billion rubles.
MMK allocated over 1.6 billion rubles to charitable and social projects. A key aspect of MMK’s and the group subsidiaries’ social programs is the encouragement of social activities aimed at improving the health of employees. In 2018, MMK Group allocated around 425 million rubles to employee medical treatment and programs, half of which was contributed by the mill. More than 428 million rubles were directed by MMK Group to the rehabilitation of employees and their families, who were in hospitals or care homes and 54.7 million rubles were allocated to children’s activities and reimbursement for the cost of travel to suburban children’s health centers. Employees are encouraged to improve and maintain good health through healthy lifestyle principles and opportunities for regular physical activity and sport. In 2018, MMK Group directed around 130 million rubles to this cause.
Social and charitable programs are available not only to current employees, but also to former employees. For over a decade, social support for the elderly, disabled and other vulnerable members of society has been one of the main social occupations of MMK and group’s subsidiaries. In 2018, MMK Group allocated 322 million rubles to this issue, 229 million rubles of which came from the mill.
Traditionally, an important part of MMK Group’s social activity has been aimed at increasing the birth rate and supporting motherhood and large families. In 2018, the group’s subsidiaries directed 85.5 million rubles to this cause.
Contributions are also made towards the organization of cultural work, which, when combined with the cost of maintaining cultural centers, came to 84.6 million rubles in 2018. For the second year in a row, the costs of organizing hot meals for employees doubled. In 2018, the costs came up to 61 million rubles. Spending on housing, youth, education and other voluntary social obligations amounted to 148 million rubles last year.
