ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih will increase funding to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) for its employees: from 81.7 million UAH in 2018 to 96.3 million UAH in 2019.

A part of PPE has already arrived at the enterprise. There are new products in addition to traditional PPE – heavy-duty clothes and shoes with steel caps, earplugs, glasses, safety helmets, etc. Modern high-duty diving suits for divers and turbo helmets for gas collecting main operators of coke and by-product process are among them.

For example, 8 turbo modules for gas collecting main operators have already passed testing at coke and by-product process. Turbo module reminding astronaut’s equipment consists of a full-face helmet with a flameproofing cape and a filter device. Modern helmet protects organs of vision and breathing from dust and gases and allows working in overheat conditions.

Following a request of the enterprise, developers have designed the module in the way that the filter device could be carried on one side or on back like a backpack. This allows avoiding hot air intrusion from coke drums into the device when working on the top part of coke oven batteries. The filter operates from a battery; its full charge is enough for an 8-hour shift. There is a filter contamination meter on the device.

Furthermore, divers of the Water Supply Shop have received three modern diving suits. These are rubber suits made as whole pieces characterized by increased strength and resistance to chemical agents impact. The diver can work in process water in such an outfit. Special refill valves allow making air interlayer between body and suit, as well as adjusting its thickness depending on temperature of water, in which the diver must work. This allows preventing frigorism, as well as avoiding excessive compression.

Also the BOF Shop has received 70 new aluminized heatproof coats since the beginning of 2019, 14 more coats will be delivered soon. Such coats secure steel makers from hot metal spray and heat emission. (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
