Russia: scrap exports from Black Sea ports to be banned

Having prohibited the exports of scrap from the main Far East ports for 6 months to help Amurmetal with raw materials, the government can now take similar measures to help Abinsk Electrometallurgical Works (AEMZ).

The Ministry of industry and trade intends to hold a meeting on providing AEMZ with raw materials. The authorities of Krasnodar region have asked the ministry to temporarily limit scrap exports from the Azov and Black Sea ports or increase export duties.

AEMZ and Novorosmetal need some 2.33 million tons of scrap per year, but exports are growing (by 21.4% in 2017, to $1.3 billion), while the export duty has been decreased from 7.5% to 5%.

AEMZ steel capacities are 1.8 million tons per year, and rebars and wire rod – 1.3 million tons. (Ukrainian metal)
