The state enterprise Ukrpromvneshexpertisa forecasts that by mid-April the price of ferrous metals scrap will drop by 3.5%, to some 8.3 thousand UAH per ton, compared with late March.
According to the company deputy director Yuri Dobrovolski, the drop will have to do with the downgrading trends on the world markets, as well as the improvement of weather conditions, which will result in scrap procurement increase.
In mid-February scrap price was 8.1 thousand tons, but it was later decreased by 300 UAH per ton.
“But the cold snap resulted in an almost complete halt of scrap deliveries. Procurement failed, and the stocks decreased. They actually fell to the lowest for the past 3 years,” he said.
At present scrap is being actively exported to Moldova, and to stop the outflow, metal companies had to increase the price to 8.8 thousand UAH per ton. In late March the price dropped to 8.5 thousand UAH. (Ukrainian metal)
