In February coal transportation via railroad reached a monthly record of 28.7 million tons, up by 8.3% YoY. And in January-February railroad transported 60.1 million tons of coal, up by 9.1% YoY.
The increase was provided by the growth of exports by 15% YoY. The highest increase was witnessed in the destination of Japan (by 25%), China (by 20%), India (3-fold), UK (by 11%) and Germany (2.5-fold).
India shows a particular interest in Russian coal. Deliveries to India are on the maximum level for the last 5 years. In March Tata Power, Sberbank and Russian officials agreed on the project to develop a coal deposit in Kamchatka valued at $400 million. The project envisages coalmining at 10 million tons per year.
