Zaporizhstal ranked first among the steel plants of Zaporizhia region in terms of taxes paid to the national budget in 2016, said the National Tax Inspection Agency for operations with major taxpayers of Zaporizhia.
In 2016, major taxpayers of the region paid more than UAH 10 billion in taxes to the national and local budgets, which equals the amount paid in 2014 and 2015. The steel plants are the biggest donors to the regional budget, with Zaporizhstal being the flagship of the industry. Thus, the income tax of Zaporizhia-based steel companies was UAH 2 billion in 2016, including UAH 1.5 billion paid by Zaporizhstal, said Roman Afonov, head of the National Tax Inspection Agency for operations with major taxpayers of Zaporizhia.
“We should always remember that the taxes paid by big and small businesses are the main source of payments to the social sector, educational and medical institutions, and the only funding source for infrastructure projects. If we want to improve our social standards, we must create conditions for development of business that will create jobs and boost tax payments,” Zaporizhstal CEO Rostislav Shurma said.
In 2016, Zaporizhstal paid a record UAH 3.2 billion in taxes (an increase of 28% or UAH 704 million) to the national budget of Ukraine. (SCM/Ukrainian metal)
