Following the increase of the minimal wage to 3200 UAH from January 1, metal companies of Mariupol, nevertheless, do not plan to fire employees.
According to Azovstal HR director Konstantin Voitsekhovsky, all the jobs have been kept.
“As of January the average salary was 10 thousand UAH. That’s considerably higher compared to the average salary in Ukraine. Only 174 employees received salary of less than 3200 UAH. Half of them were apprentices”, he said.
These employees’ wages have been increased.
Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works increased salary of 215 employees, or slightly more than 1% of the total personnel. The average salary in January was 9.5 thousand UAH.
But there is an issue of the output drop because of the railroad blockade.
“This negatively affects our capacities. Still we are not going to fire anyone this year. Moreover, we even have 258 vacancies”, Voitsekhovsky said.
Still if the blockade persists, some of the employees could face a decreased workweek. (Ukrainian metal)
