On the eve of the Miners Day DTEK Dobropolyeugol employees found out their working week had been shortened to just 2 days.
“They said if we refused we could be fired – they would take miners from Pavlogradugol. We would have to work 7-8 days per month. How shall we feed our families”, said enraged miners.
The management says this situation would last for 3 months, after that it might change.
DTEK Dobropolyeugol is one of the largest coalmining companies of Ukraine. It comprises of 5 mines at the Northwest of the Donetsk region: Almaznaya, Belitskaya, Dobropolskaya, Novodonetskaya and Pioneer.
The coal mined there is delivered to the Zuev, Kurakhovo, Ladyzhin, Burshtyn and Zaporozhye Thermal Power Stations, as well as to by-product coke plants.
Around 5% of the coal is used for the company own needs and for social programs, such as town heating. (Ukrainian metal)
