In January-February Ukrainian coke works produced 1.63 million tons of 6% metallurgical coke, down by 42.1% YoY, with 735 thousand tons in February and 900 thousand tons in January.

Despite the difficult situation in the mining-metallurgical complex, experts say there is a slight rise in coke output. In particular, Avdiivka Coke and Chemical Works used to produce small batches of coke, but now its capacities are working at 40%.

Coke deficiency has made some companies import it. Among them are ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih, Zaporizhstal and Dzerzhinsky. At the same time some coke plants carry excessive stock. Makeevka Coke Plant has nowhere to supply its coke, as the nearby works are on halt (Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works and its Makeevka subsidiary).

In the first half year of 2014 Ukrainian coke plants produced 40 thousand tons of coke per day, now – around 20 thousand tons. (Ukrainian metal)
