RUSAL has stopped aluminum rolled wire manufacture at the Zaporozhye Aluminum Works (ZALK) due to the absence of demand.
RUSAL owns the only aluminum works in Ukraine, where high electricity prices halted aluminum manufacture in 2011. Now the works produces rolled wire.
The capacities of the works are 20 thousand tons of aluminum rolled wire per year. The Ukrainian authorities tried to find a new investor, but to no avail.
“Rolled wire shop at ZALK depends on the orders and cost-efficiency of its manufacture. At present we do not intend to shut down the manufacture”, said a RUSAL representative. (Ukrainian metal)
