Ukraine: Verkhovna Rada adopts law on SkhidGZK corporatization

The adopted law will allow preserving and developing the only enterprise in Ukraine engaged in the extraction of uranium ore and the production of natural uranium concentrate.

The document, in particular, provides for:

– Retention of 100% of the shares of SkhidGZK Joint Stock Company in state ownership;

– Mandatory independent valuation of the enterprise’s property and its review by the State Property Fund;

– Formation of the authorized capital of SkhidGZK JSC in accordance with the property valuation methodology and without long-term and current liabilities to resolve the issue of negative authorized capital caused by significant debt;

– Amendments to the legislation to preserve the Company’s legal succession to all obligations and property and land plots of the current state-owned enterprise;

– Changes to the bankruptcy legislation, which will ensure the introduction of a temporary moratorium on asset recovery for continuous operation, financial recovery and prevention of loss of the enterprise.

“The next step after the adoption of the law is the merger of SkhidGZK with NNEGC Energoatom to create a vertically integrated holding in Ukraine that controls the entire technological cycle: from the extraction and production of uranium concentrate to the generation of electricity. I thank the people’s deputies for supporting this important legislative initiative of the Government,” emphasized the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
