Ukraine: Zaporizhzhia metallurgists join spring city cleanup

Over 150 volunteers from Zaporizhzhia Metinvest enterprises joined the spring cleanup. Employees of Zaporizhstal and Zaporizhkoks, together with their families, cleaned green areas and coastal areas, continuing the long-standing tradition of caring for Zaporizhzhia.

On April 4, participants worked at two locations – in the green area at the intersection of Peremohy and Skifska streets and along the Dnipro coastline near Epicenter.

“We regularly join cleanups – sometimes we initiate them ourselves, sometimes we join with others. It’s about a common cause: making the city cleaner and better,” says Serhiy Petrov, deputy head of the Zaporizhstal youth organization.

Participants say that such initiatives are an opportunity to contribute to the common space, because the cleanliness of the city depends on everyone.

“We want the city to be clean and safe. So that people can relax without the risk of encountering glass or garbage. Therefore, it is important not to wait for someone else to do it, but to act ourselves,” says Daniil Kolisnyk, a leading electrical engineer at the Zaporizhstal Chief Power Engineer’s Service.

The cleaning also became an opportunity for lively communication outside of work and strengthening team spirit.

“In an informal atmosphere, it is easy to communicate, get to know each other better, and at the same time do something useful. And also to set an example for children on how to treat the environment,” shares Yana Fotornyuk, an employee of the Zaporizhstal Environmental Protection Agency.

It was for this purpose that Artem Stolyarov and his son came to the cleaning. The little helper carefully watched the adults and learned to be careful about the environment.

“I came with my son Danylo to show him a simple thing: cleanliness starts with each of us. And it is important to join such useful initiatives,” emphasizes Artem Stolyarov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Steel Plant.

In a few hours of work, the volunteers collected a significant amount of garbage – mostly plastic, glass, and household waste.

“We went to two locations to help the city become even cleaner on the eve of the Easter holidays. With joint efforts, we are restoring order where it is really needed. In total, more than 2 tons of garbage were collected and removed during the cleaning,” notes Maksym Ped, HR Director of Zaporizhzhia Steel.

For Metinvest employees, such actions are more than cleaning. They are about responsibility, unity, and love for their hometown. Zaporizhzhia metallurgists will continue to join such initiatives, because such actions not only make the city cleaner, but also unite people around common values. (Zaporizhstal)
