EAEU: Kazakhstan proposes zeroing import duty on titanium scrap and waste

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has submitted for public discussion a proposal by the Kazakh government to permanently introduce a zero import customs duty on titanium scrap and waste imported into the Eurasian Economic Union (TN VED 8108 30 000 0).

The EEC is also considering a proposal by the Kazakh authorities to permanently introduce a zero import duty on titanium oxides imported into the Eurasian Economic Union (TN VED 2823 00 000 0).

Astana explains its initiative by citing the need to support and enhance the competitiveness of metallurgical enterprises in the EAEU countries.

The current import duty rate on titanium raw materials in the Eurasian Economic Union is 5% of their customs value.

In Kazakhstan, the only consumer of titanium scrap and waste, as well as titanium dioxide, is the Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant.

The plant produces titanium sponge, titanium ingots, and alloys, which are subsequently used in the aircraft industry and other industries. (Logistan)
