Kazakhstan: Kazakhmys not to bow to striking miners

A strike of 200 Kazakhmys, South-Zhezkazgan mine and Zhylandy mine employees began on December 17.

The demands of the strikers changed during the day. At first they wanted a 30% increase in salary, but until the end of the day –already 100%.

“There will be no talks on a 100% increase in salary. First of all, in this case all the Kazakh industry will stop. None has such a salary now in Kazakhstan. That you have decided to suspend operation is not understandable for us,” a negotiator from the employer said.

He added that the salary would be indexed by the inflation level. The forecast volume is 8.5%. (Ukrainian metal)
