Kyrgyzstan: Kumtor’s net profit exceeds $1.77 billion in less than three years

In less than three years since transfer to the state, the net profit of Kumtor project exceeded $1.77 billion, the Chairman of the Cabinet Akylbek Japarov said at the meeting of the Parliament.

MPs considered the report of the Cabinet of Ministers on the execution of the national budget for 2023.

“Thanks to the political will of Sadyr Japarov, evolutionary rather than revolutionary events have occurred in the mining industry. For the first time in 30 years, the economic, national and environmental interests of the Kyrgyz state have been effectively protected. 400 tons of gold have been produced over 27 years, and only $100 million in dividends have come from Kumtor. And today, over 2.5 years, 38 tons of gold have been produced and $291 million has been received as dividends, while tax and other payments to the budget over three years have amounted to $990 million,” Akylbek Japarov said.

He also added that for the first time in the country’s history, 1 billion soms was allocated for geological research, and mining enterprises had brought the country an income of 111 billion in three years. (24.kg)
