Uzbekistan: construction of 4th copper-processing plant begins at Almalyk

On October 15, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the activities of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex and new investment projects.

Economic reforms are yielding results in all sectors. Over the past six years, the volume of industrial output at the Almalyk plant has increased 1.8-fold, localization 7.7-fold and investments 13-fold. More than 70 projects have been implemented within the framework of the Digital AMMC 2030 Strategy.

Currently, new complexes are being built. Existing capacities are being increased. While 2 factories were built over the 75-year history of the plant, now the pace of commissioning new capacities has accelerated. In 2021, construction of the third copper-processing plant began based on the Yoshlik-1 deposit. Now, as part of the second stage of this project, the construction of the fourth copper-processing plant is beginning.

The head of state pressed a symbolic button and launched the construction of the new plant.

Thanks to the project worth $5.3 billion, capacities will be created to produce 146 thousand tons of copper cathode, 13 tons of gold and 73 tons of silver per year. The annual production volume will reach $1.9 billion. More than 3 thousand people will work at the plant and its infrastructure facilities.

The Italian company Wood and the British Worley Parsons are involved in the project. It is envisaged to use high-tech, environmentally friendly and cost-effective technologies in production.

It should be noted that the fifth copper-processing plant of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex is currently being designed. (Kazinform)
