ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih began intensive sanitization of its checkpoints and stop pavilions at the plant’s territory. Twice a day, the rescuers of the State Fire and Rescue Team No. 4 help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection among employees and contractors who work on the territory of the plant.
The checkpoints and stop stations are under special attention. Everyone who works at the plant passes through the checkpoints, and the stop stations are crowded places with people who are transferred to the workshops. For processing checkpoints and stopping pavilions the company has purchased 2 tons of concentrate of which an alkaline frothless chlorine based disinfectant solution will be prepared. It is harmless to humans, but it can destroy many types of bacteria, molds and viruses. Disinfection is carried out daily from midnight to 2:00 and from 12:00 to 14:00 by the specialists of state fire and rescue units Nos. 20, 29 and 30. The rescuers use special protective suits L-1 and gas masks GP-7.
The premises of the checkpoints and stop pavilions are carefully handled at the level of human growth (up to 2 meters), as well as railings, turnstiles, doors and partially walls along the route through the checkpoints. Works are carried out at 18 checkpoints and in 8 stop pavilions of the plant. The total area of these premises is 640 square meters. Disinfection is planned at least until the end of quarantine.
Along with reducing the number of people at the plant, quarantine measures in the catering facilities, providing people with protective masks and respirators (about 250 thousand pieces), gloves (100 thousand pairs), detergents and disinfectants, organizing the safe transportation of the employees to workshops, processing the checkpoints and stopping pavilions will maximize the protection of personnel from coronavirus infection.
Andriy Serdechniy, Fire Safety Manager, Department of Health and Safety and Industrial Safety, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih: “Disinfectant treatment is one of the most impactful and efficient methods. The firefighters of Rescue Team No 4 once again have proved that they are always ready to come to our aid. The administration of the company takes all necessary measures. But we have one more powerful weapon against the virus – this is a conscious approach of each of us, strict implementation of the recommendations of the Ministry of Health. All this together will help to stop the spread of COVID-19”. (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
