ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih has received the third locomotive this year modernized by Nikolayev Locomotive-Repair Plant.
4 more machines are expected in August-October. And three will be sent for repairs in late June.
Thus, in 2019, 11 locomotives will be repaired this year, up almost 2-fold YoY.
“But for the fleet of 126 machines, which service the metal manufacture, this is not enough. The annual need in repair (which is carried out once every 6 years) is some 20 locomotives. The main problem is the lack of enterprises in Ukraine, which can carry out a quality repair of a locomotive. So we’re looking for them not only in Ukraine, but also abroad”, the transport department deputy director on logistics Andrey Kindrat said.
The second problem is that Russia has stopped supplying spare parts to Ukraine, as they can be used both in civil and military sectors.
The modernization of a locomotive costs 12-13 million UAH. Expenses on 11 machines this year will amount to 132-143 million UAH.
AMKR replenishes the fleet of its locomotives not only by repairs. Earlier this year the company has purchased a TM-2U locomotive. 4 more will be purchased in 2020. (Ukrainian metal)
