Kyrgyzstan: radiation level measured at uranium deposit in Issyk-Kul region

Interdepartmental Commission has visited uranium deposit and measured the background radiation level, YurAsia company reported.

The radiation background in the camp ranges from 30 to 72 micro-roentgens per hour, and at the quarry – 75 micro-roentgens per hour. The radiation background rose to 130 micro-roentgens per hour at the mining site. After the completion of exploration, it dropped to 70 micro-roentgens per hour.

The norm for living should not exceed 57 micro-roentgens per hour. For example, radiation background in Bishkek is 25 micro-roentgens per hour.

YurAsia company is going to develop Tash-Bulak deposit of Kyzyl-Ompol group of uranium-thorianite placers. It is planned to process it at Kara-Balta mining plant. However, residents of Ton district of Issyk-Kul region oppose the project. The civil society also opposes development of uranium near Issyk-Kul lake. (24.kg/Ukrainian metal)
