The output of Chelyabinsk Zinc Works, a major facility of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC), amounted to 50,851 tons of commercial zinc, 239 tons of cadmium, and 1,729 tons of indium in January-March, the plant said in a statement.
CEO Pavel Izbrekht attributed the result to upgrading. In 2018, the company invested 1.3 billion rubles in upgrading and launched a desalinization facility at its hydrometallurgical unit, switched the second Waelz kiln for heat treatment of Waelz oxide, and launched a unit for refining of secondary zinc-bearing raw materials.
The plant expects its annual output to grow by 4.7% this year, to 200,000 tons of commercial products. (Prime/Ukrainian metal)
