PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih has run an open international competition on professional skills of drivers. Seven teams took part in the competition. There were teams of Zaporizhstal, Poltava Mining Complex, Kryvbass Belaz Service JV, and teams of Ukrainian and Kazakhstan Companies of ArcelorMittal Group.
PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih has been running such competitions for drivers since 2011. Since 2014 these competitions have become open – with participation of other companies of mining and steelmaking Sector and their partners, and since 2017 these competitions have earned the status of international.
This year every team consisted of two persons – a driver and a line manager. They carried out eight tasks during one competitive day. A competition began with theoretical part. This part included testing of knowledge concerning occupational safety and health rules, road traffic regulations, and immediate treatment of victims of road traffic accident. Practical part began with giving medical treatment to simulated victim. In this part, the teams showed in practice medical skills on rescue of people before the arrival of emergency ambulance.
Two following competitions focused on “health condition” of cars – knowledge concerning motor vehicle construction and inspection of the technical condition before starting to drive. Line managers showed their knowledge and skills in these competitions. In addition, drivers demonstrated driving skills on the specially prepared route at passenger motor transport shop of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih. There was much to see: a full-size car turned through 90 degrees per seconds, cut corners, made reversed parking, executed maneuvers in a confined space and showed tricks. Main criteria were safety, right driving and speed of task execution, while driving a freight transport.
Andrey Kindrat, Head of the Transport Department of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih: “Our profession requires severe discipline, ability to think fast in driving situation and, certainly, special knowledge. None is born a skilled specialist, you should become one, and professional skill competition is one of the methods to examine knowledge and skills once again. It will be useful to repeat all rules, to practice driving, and also to communicate with colleagues from other companies and to share the experience, even if you are high-skilled specialist having a long experience. Our participants work at different companies, and drive different kinds of vehicles, but such competitions hold them together and promote their professional development”.
A commission of experts selected the winners in several nominated categories: “The best team” (1, 2 and 3 places), “The best driver” and “The best specialist”.
Regarding the results of competitions, the team of process motor transport shop of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih was in the first place. The team of Poltava Mining Complex PJSC was in the second place, and the team of Zaporizhstal was the third one.
Dmitriy Mikhailov (the team of ArcelorMittal Temirtau) became the best driver. Moreover, Rostislav Shagan gained a reward in the nomination of “The best specialist” (passenger motor transport shop of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih). (AMKR/Ukrainian metal)
