Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) achieved the first place among Russian producers of galvanized and coated rolled metal following research carried out by the industry’s authoritative publication Metal Supply and Sales.
The ranking of leading producers and suppliers of ferrous and non-ferrous metal products is compiled by the magazine regularly. In the latest issue the ranking was published based on the results of the second half of 2017. For more than two years MMK has ranked first in the category of producers of galvanized and coated metal, which over the last 15 years significantly increased capacity to produce galvanized metal and metal with a polymer coating.
Specifically, three continuous hot-dip galvanizing units and two polymer-coating units went into operation. Within the framework of the second phase of construction of the new cold rolling complex in rolling mill No. 11, in 2012 one more continuous hot-dip galvanizing unit was commissioned, as well as a combined continuous annealing and hot-dip galvanizing unit. Finally, in 2017 continuous hot-dip galvanizing unit No. 3 was put into operation, built on the site of rolling mill No. 11. The productivity of this unit amounts to 360,000 tons a year. With its commissioning, MMK’s capacity for the production of galvanized steel increased to more than 2 million tons per year. When the project was implemented, MMK was awarded the title of laureate in the contest “The Main Event of 2017 in Russian Metallurgy”, the results of which were presented at the exhibition “Metal-Expo”.
In addition, in the ranking of the “Metal supply and sales” magazine for H2 2017 MMK appeared among the top three producers of flat steel. MMK-METIZ (Magnitogorsk metal ware and calibration plant), a part of the MMK Group, is among the top three manufacturers of metal ware products.
The ranking of the best Russian producers and traders of ferrous and non-ferrous metals is based on questionnaires received from customers of metal products, the results of expert surveys of the metal market, and also complex analysis of companies’ operations. In determining the best enterprises, the following criteria were taken into account: the dynamics of business development, the volumes of supply, the level of service, the quality of products, the supplier’s reliability in fulfilling contractual obligations and openness in the provision of information.
