ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih plans to have finished construction of the coke battery No. 5 by H1 2018.

According to the project and program director of the investment and engineering department Yegor Klimenko, the cost of the project to reconstruct the coke battery No. 6 begun in July is $128 million, and together with coke battery No. 5 – $170 million. CB No. 6 has already reached 90% of its project capacity, which is 500 thousand tons of bulk coke per year.

At the same time the CB reconstruction will not solve the issue of AMKR coke provision. The company has to import it from Poland, China or Colombia.

Now the company operates 5 coke batteries.

“The third and the fourth yield some 1 million tons of coke per year, the first and the second have to yield 1 million tons, and some 500 thousand tons should come from the sixth. Thus the combined output of the coke battery complex is over 2 million tons per year. CB Nos. 5 and 6 will completely cover the need of blast furnace No. 9”, Klimenko explained. (Ukrainian metal)
