Norilsk Nickel and the Directorate of the 2019 Winter Universiade signed an agreement to finance training for personnel and volunteers of the upcoming event organized for university athletes.
Support for high-level sports, along with student and youth sports in Russia, is an important element of the social policy of Norilsk Nickel. Under the agreement, jointly with the Directorate of the 2019 Winter Universiade, Norilsk Nickel intends to provide extensive support for the development of student sports in the country. This is the primary goal incorporated by the company into the agreement.
“We understand that the success of any such large-scale event depends not only on the timely availability of infrastructure but also on the high-quality training of all the parties involved: volunteers, professionals, and sports personnel, who will help hold the international student competitions and will ensure that they are high-grade events. This is particularly important because the Krasnoyarsk territory will host such events for the first time”, Norilsk Nickel’s Vice President – State Secretary, GR Elena Bezdenezhnykh said.
For the 2019 Winter Universiade, there are plans to form the Directorate staffed by 650 people. All of them, from lower- to higher-ranking staff members, should receive training and advanced training. The Universiade will also need about 1,800 temporary employees, who will also be trained under a special program. At the same time, around 5,000 volunteers will be engaged in test events and the Winter Universiade. Regardless of their level of training, they will be prepared under a special program for specific services to provide support for future competitions. Another category of trainees will be employees of suppliers and contractors, about 3,000 people.
“To provide training for personnel and volunteers is a fundamental task, which will, if fulfilled, directly determine the success of the 2019 Winter Universiade. The implementation of the training programs for personnel and volunteers will enhance the overall level of professional competencies of all participants in the games, who are more than 10,000 people. So, we invest not only in the Winter Universiade but also in the development of local young professionals”, Maksim Urazov, General Director of the Executive Directorate of the 2019 Winter Universiade, said.
Under the agreement, Norilsk Nickel will finance training for all requested groups. The operators of the training programs will be two Russian leading universities, which also signed agreements.
Training will start as early as 2017 and will continue until the beginning of the 2019 Winter Universiade. Norilsk Nickel is the general partner of the XXIX Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk in 2019.
