Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works has found a way to increase productivity of its continuous-casting machines No. 1 and 2.
While producing slabs the company has to adjust their width according to the order. So it has to disassemble bolt joints of collectors, where the slabs are cooled. Due to the aggressive environment – high temperature and acids, bolts quickly take rust and their disassembly requires a lot of time.
“We found out how to speed up the process. We treat the bolt with a special ointment and cover with the asbestos cord. This protects it from corrosion and the disassembly becomes much faster”, Yuri Zinchenko, the company CEO, said. (Ukrainian metal)
