The minister of energy and coal industry Igor Nasalik said that the Rotterdam+ formula was not working in Ukraine.
“At present coal on the Rotterdam exchange costs around $74 per ton. If we add transport, unloading and the rest, it would be 2.3-2.4 thousand UAH per ton, and not 1.39 thousand UAH, according to the Rotterdam price”, he said.
“Had it been working, our coal price would have been at least 2.3 UAH per ton. While our TPP tariffs list 1390 UAH”, he added.
The minister believes that Rotterdam+ is not a bad system, allowing for a maximum diversification of coal sources.
“Still, I support the Polish system – exchange quotations. First of all, it’s better because it has no transportation (there are no double standards for logistics, etc.). Second, mines subject to ministry yield only gas-generating coal”, Nasalik explained. (Ukrainian metal)
