Ukraine imports 4 million tons of coal from the occupied territories of Donbass per year.
“The vice-prime-minister on occupied territories deals with these deliveries. Our ministry is not engaged”, said the Ministry of energy and coal industry head Igor Nasalik.
Due to the military conflict in Donbass Ukraine has lost access to most mines there. The most profitable mines are now on the occupied territories, while Ukraine-controlled mines produce cheap gas-generating coal. That is why Kiev has to import coal. (Ukrainian metal)
