Ukrtrubprom CEO Leonid Ksaverchuk says Ministry of economic development and trade has been taking decisions reflecting scrap business interests.
“Instead of market regulation in favor of the state, providing for the balance between scrap exports and consumption, the ministry has been listening to scrap exporters and giving them the record quotations”, he said.
In January-November Ukraine exported 1.17 million tons of scrap, while in 2012 exports were on the level of 0.4 million, in 2013 – 0.3 million and in 2014 – 0.8 million tons.
At the same time the target for scrap procurement for 2015 was 5.5 million tons. So far Ukraine has procured 3.96 million tons, with scrap shortages rising to 800-850 thousand tons by the year-end. (Ukrainian metal)
