The largest coke works in Europe – Avdiivka Coke and Chemical Works – could stop operating because of the lack of empty railroad cars.
“There are no locomotives to get them”, said the company CEO Musa Magomedov.
For coke manufacture to work correctly the plant needs 110-160 cars per day.
“Without them our main consumers: Mariupol Ilyich Iron and Steel Works, Azovstal and Zaporizhstal – will not get raw materials”, he added.
According to Magomedov, Avdiivka owner Metinvest tries to do everything to make the railroad work stable: it reconstructs bridges and helps Ukrzaliznytsya (Ukrainian railways) with fuel and locomotive parts. But it doesn’t get a response.
“Yesterday instead of the three empty trains we received only one. So we are forced to decrease our output”, said Magomedov.
Avdiivka CEO believes, if Ukrzaliznytsya doesn’t solve this problem, the whole industry will collapse.
Decrease in coke output will result in the fall of metal manufacture. Both Ukrzaliznytsya and the country itself would suffer.
Now Avdiivka Coke and Chemical Works operates at 93% capacity, despite the constant shelling damaging the production process. (Ukrainian metal)
