Ukraine ranks eighth on steel smelting in world

According to the World Steel Association data, Ukraine has secured eighth position among the largest countries-world steel producers in March having produced 2.995 million tons of metal.
Ukraine in February attained the eighth place among the largest countries-world steel producers having produced 2.565 million tons of metal. In total, the world steel production this March against March of the previous year grew by 30.6% and made up 120 million tons.
China remains to be the largest metal producer with 54.968 million tons of steel. The present result is 22.5% YoY up against the same period of the previous year.
The Ukrainian Association of Steel Traders said Ukrainian steel trading companies increased the purchase and sale of steel products by 11.4% in January to March 2010 YoY, to 280,463 tons. Steel purchases at Ukrainian steel enterprises grew by 15.9% over three months to 260,491 tons, whereas import supplies fell by 25.9% to 19,972 tons. In March alone, companies bought 115,688 tons of steel products, including 109,128 tons bought at Ukrainian steel enterprises and 6,560 tons purchased abroad.
The share of metal traders in the total volume of consumption in three months of 2010 reached 30%, pipe rolling mills – 28%, machine-building enterprises – 20%, ore mining and smelting complex – 9%, hardware enterprises – 9%, construction industry – 1%, railways – 0.1%, others – 3%. (Breitbart)
