JSC Yenakiievo Metallurgical Works part of Metinvest Group has completed a set of planned major overhauls at all the process stages of the enterprise.
As a result of the Maintenance and Repair Program implementation, the core process equipment of the production shops has been upgraded and its performance capacities have been improved. M and R activities are based on the production development and modernization strategy. CAPEX of the program comprised almost UAH 92 million which is 31%YoY more.
A large work volume has been performed within 45 days at the sintering, blast furnace, steel smelting and rolling conversions. The major overhaul program encompassed 16 facilities.
Metal structures and process equipment have been replaced at Sintering Machine 2 at the Sinter Plant. This resulted in improved quality of sinter and 15% higher production capacity of the machine, which comprised 608,000 tonnes per annum. Large scale upgrade of the right side of Bin Trestle 1 has been performed aiming at improving the working conditions of transfercar and raw material loader operators as well as manufacturing reliability of the equipment. Railway tracks, run beams, bridge floor and other sections of this bridgework have been upgraded.
A number of major overhauls have been performed in the Blast Furnace Shop in order to improve performance reliability of the core machinery and mechanisms of the blast furnaces and pellets and coke warehouse. Replacement of the charging mechanism and pneumatic concrete placing of BF-5 shaft are the most important repairs, which enabled reducing heat losses and cutting coke consumption by 2 kilogram per tonnes of cast iron. Under current rate of capacity utilization of the Shop, total annual saving will comprise 2100 tonnes of coke.
Major overhauls have been performed at five Converter Shop facilities: Converter 2, both continuous casting machines and two metallurgical cranes. Main maintenance and repair activities involved upgrade of gas treatment units of Converter 2 which resulted in 15% reduction of harmful emissions. Pilot spring-hydraulic oscillator has been installed at CCM-1. This installation is designed to raise productivity of CCM-1 and improve quality of billets.
Mr Alexander Podkorytov Director General of EMZ OJSC said “Performance of major overhauls in sets has proved efficient during the last three years. Now, there are less downtimes of metallurgical and energy supplying units. Our planned saving from the current set of overhauls will comprise UAH 5 million.” (SteelGuru)
