Chelyabinsk Iron and Steel Works has smelted the first large billet weighing 50 tons.
The new technology to produce super-sized billets of special steel grades will allow ChMK to enter a new market and sell locally, as well as export.
There are not many companies in the world capable of producing such billets, as the manufacture requires the availability of machinery to produce the necessary volume of quality steel.
“The company has already produced large billets, but their maximum weight was 17.5 tons. The new 50-ton billets will be supplied to another Mechel enterprise – UralKuz”, Mechel CEO Oleg Korzhov said. (Ukrainian metal)
